Crucial role

It’s time for the glazing industry to have a modern, engaging trade association that does what a trade association is supposed to do, according to Jon Vanstone, chair of Certass Trade Association.

“Trade associations have a crucial role to play in improving the perception of an industry,” Jon said. “As well as helping installers improve their professionalism with practical business advice and training, it’s their job to be the representative voice for the industry at government level.

“By talking to local installers and getting their views on the industry, we knew that there was an opportunity to introduce a membership body that gave everyone the chance to have their say, from small installers with one fitting team, right up to the largest glazing systems companies. Installers told us there was a lack of advice and information from the wider industry, that’s why we launched Certass Trade Association (CTA).

“It’s already proving a success and we have attracted some great support from the industry who are happy to see a new membership body emerge that isn’t all about making big bucks for the select few. CTA is inclusive and invites companies of all shapes, sizes and specialities to join.”

Certass Trade Association membership costs just £23.95 per month, regardless of company size or turnover and every company in the industry is invited to be a member. Membership is free for all Certass registered installers.

Jon adds: “I’ve seen how trade associations in other sectors have changed perceptions of their industry, through my involvement with the Trade Association Forum (TAF) and the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC), so we know how much potential the glazing industry has.”
