Unilam Machinery is known as an industry stalwart, offering innovative and intelligent solutions for glass production.

Perhaps best known over the years for the Cooltemper range of toughening plants, the last 14 years has seen the company further evolve its product offer to include sealed unit lines and EVA / PVB laminating systems with remarkable success.

Unilam has developed IGIS sealed unit lines and Sagertec laminating systems to be among the most popular machines in their respective sectors, with growth experienced even during the pandemic.  2025 has seen a continuation on this trend with three fully automatic IGIS sealed unit lines and four Sagertec laminating systems completed so far in what are challenging market conditions.

Unilam has also recently employed two new service engineers, with a focus on continued training and development of the team.

Recent landmark projects include the installation of what is said to be the fastest and most thermally efficient toughening plant on the market – the Firejet 2.0 – along with several brand new Powerjet models and two full new factory setups.

One of the new factory setups in Ireland showcases Unilam’s range of machines to full effect, with 16 year old Cooltemper & IGIS lines running directly alongside brand-new versions.

“We are extremely proud to have offered the market leading Cooltemper range of toughening plants and heat soak ovens for nearly 30 years, making us probably the longest standing independent supplier of the same brand of glass machinery in the UK,” said Nolan Millard, technical sales director at Unilam.

“Working with Cooltemper for such a long time has given Unilam unrivalled levels of knowledge, which along with our team of eight service engineers and over £300,000 of spare parts stocked in our 16,000ft2 facility in Leeds enables the service and support on which we have built our business and reputation.

“It is a testament to the quality and reliability of Cooltemper products that machines almost 30 years old are still in operation and overseen by us at Unilam,” he continued. “This gives new customers reassurance in what they are investing in and that their supplier will be around for the next 30 years plus!

“Our focus for 2025 is to build on our already strong team of engineers as well as investing further in additional stock holding of parts and the implementation of an online spares catalogue.”

In today’s ever-more demanding marketplace, Nolan adds that customers now place a greater emphasis on the level of support machinery suppliers can offer. “We view our customers as partners, and we aim to continuously improve our service which we believe is key to ensuring successful business for both parties,” he said. “This emphasis on service and support has paid off, with sales remaining strong, despite uncertain market conditions.”

The introduction of thin triple glazed units is something Unilam is keeping a close eye on, with IGIS announcing machinery solutions for thin triple IG production and Cooltemper able to offer solutions for chemically tempering glass from as thin as 0.55mm. Nolan points out that Unilam will be one of only a handful of suppliers that can offer full solutions for this new product line moving forward.

As the name suggests Unilam is also no stranger to laminated glass, and through Specialist Laminates, is the largest supplier of EVA laminating film in the UK.

Operating from the same premises, the Leeds based specialists in laminated products are entering into their 14th year supplying Unilam EVA to the market.

“The continued upward rise in demand for our Unilam EVA and laminating systems has allowed us to invest heavily in stock and testing with the highest levels of clarity alongside superior technical and strength characteristics,” continued Nolan.  “We can guarantee same day collection / next day delivery and have supplied the same EVA film for 14 years with the highest classification level for EN12600.”
