A recent speech delivered by the Minister for Industry and Economic Security at Make UK’s National Manufacturing Conference showed incredible support for UK manufacturing.

During her keynote address, Nusrat Ghani MP, urged attendees to disregard any claims that Britain doesn’t make anything anymore. Despite current global economic difficulties, she has no doubt that the country has always and will always be a manufacturing powerhouse.

At Debar, we have similar ambitions and beliefs regarding UK manufacturing. Since we launched more than 15 years ago, we have manufactured and supplied hundreds of thousands of shootbolt locks and handles, bi-fold hinges, guides, rollers and much more to companies across the world.

While the business operates on a global scale, we are fully committed to keeping our main manufacturing headquarters firmly embedded within the UK.

Being a British manufacturer is something we’re incredibly proud of at Debar. Although our operations have expanded and we now have a number of partnerships overseas and in the middle east, we have consciously made the decision – as a business – to continue manufacturing our products at our main site in West Yorkshire.

“Keeping manufacturing within the UK has a fantastic impact on the country and we’re not planning to change this any time soon.”

Supporting UK manufacturing

Operating as a British manufacturer creates incredible opportunities not just for Debar as a business, but for the country as a whole. In fact, there are a whole host of economical, social and environmental benefits associated with manufacturing within the UK.

From boosting economic growth through job creation to maintaining better control over the production process and supply chain, we’ve seen incredible results from developing our products within our warehouse in Bradford.

Although the world continues to battle the fallout from the Covid-19 pandemic, the UK manufacturing sector is thriving and helping to drive growth up and down the country.

We want to make a real difference not just to the future of the construction industry but the UK economy overall, so we recently participated in an innovative trade mission backed by the Department of Business and Trade.

While the trade mission focused specifically on sustainability, our involvement on this project also allowed the team to join an ambitious group designed to help create a prosperous economy within the cities and surrounding areas in the North of England.

We’re incredibly proud to be involved in this initiative working alongside other ambitious and forward-thinking construction business based in the North.

We’ll be sure to make the most of this fantastic opportunity to share our experience and insight to support the wider construction industry.

The future of manufacturing

In her speech, Nusrat Ghani MP, also discussed the future of British manufacturing and highlighted that to stay in the game companies will need to be ahead of the game.

With our finger firmly on the pulse of the latest trends and revelations within the construction industry, Debar is already focusing heavily on innovation in design and manufacturing. In fact, our team has been exploring key lean manufacturing principles to refine and improve our existing design and production processes.

As a company, we have a real commitment to quality and excellence.

Reviewing our operations and applying the lean manufacturing principles will help us to not only guarantee we produce high-quality products, but we’ll also become more efficient as a British manufacturer – which is something we’re incredibly passionate about.
