Wicked dry sense of humour
Glass Times editor reports on the passing of Profine’s UK managing director.
Stefan Seidel, managing director of Profine UK, sadly passed away on Monday March 26, the company has announced. He was 50.
Stefan was the operations manager of Profine UK until his promotion in 2014 to managing director and a “true company man”.
“A highly regarded industry professional, he brought with him considerable knowledge, expertise and a hands-on approach to the Kömmerling brand in the UK and Ireland,” Profine said.
“He will be sorely missed by many friends, associates and the industry as a whole. He was also a devoted and loving father.”
Industry friends and colleagues have been sharing their memories since the news was circulated yesterday (March 27).
“I was shocked to hear about the death of Stefan, especially as I was sitting next to him at a meeting during Fensterbau just three days earlier,” Paul Godwin, managing director of the FIT Show, said. “I liked Stefan immensely; he had a mischief about him, always with that ready grin, and it was very easy to be in his company.
“He was also a consummate professional with a real eye for detail, and when Profine finally decided to join us at the FIT Show he committed the company fully to the project.
“In my other dealings with him he was highly approachable and yet demanded answers and detail in everything. A great loss to his family of course and I believe that Profine UK – and actually the industry overall – will miss this great character.”
PR consultant Iain McInnes worked with Stefan for 10 years. He said: “Stefan Seidel led Profine and the Kömmerling brands with great skill in the UK. The staff loved, trusted and respected him, while his relationships with customers was rich and warm. He also had a wicked dry sense of humour, often at the expense of the country of his birth.
“We’ve lost someone really quite special at the tender age of just 50. All of my thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to those that knew him and to his family, specifically his cherished daughter. May you rest in peace Stefan Seidel.”
Funeral details will be announced in due course.
