Following on from a recent tour of the new Regency Glass headquarters in Warrington, I visited another leading glass company this week, Specialist Glass Products (SGP), based in Huddersfield.

Like Regency, SGP started with just a handful of employees but since its inception in 2003, now boasts a workforce of over 100 employees and a factory that is brimming with automation.

Specialising in bespoke glass for high end ‘Grand Design’ style projects and the commercial sector, SGP can supply a range of ‘regular’ flat glass but is perhaps best known for its ability to process more complex orders, including structural, oversized and curved glass.

As such, the company prides itself on the precision and quality of its offer – at this end of the market, it’s imperative that product is ‘right first time’ – and on its competitive lead times. All of which is made possible by an experienced factory team but also by investing heavily in machinery.

At the heart of SGP’s factory is a Systron proHD vertical glass processing machine, one of the first of its kind in the UK. It allows SGP to polish, drill and wash glass up to 6m x 3.2m and represents an outlay of £1.2m. Further investment is in the pipeline to complement the Systron and this is scheduled to be commissioned by the end of 2026 or early 2027.

The company is also looking to enhance its laminating department, to further improve efficiencies and quality, as well as explore options for additional facilities and the potential to introduce AI systems.

SGP boasts an impressive portfolio of projects, many of which are featured on the company’s new website www.specialistglass.co.uk, and where you can find more details on product range and how to contact the team.
