If there was an award for best press release of the week, then this week’s winner would be the agency handling the PR for upcycling company, Green Doors.
Green Doors is a business that was set up by an entrepreneur called Joseph Holman. It all started when Joseph decided to salvage and sell a door he found in a skip, the catalyst for what has since become a mission to divert used doors from landfill.
Last year, the business reportedly saved over 3,000 items destined from landfill and currently has over 1,600 doors for sale in its 25,000ft2 warehouse. From that first sale, Green Doors now turns over nearly £2m a year and has grown to a team of six – it was even awarded The King’s Award for Enterprise for Sustainable Development.
Quick to spot an opportunity to promote its client following the departure of Sir Keir Starmer, Green Doors’ PR firm has suggested that the entrance to No10 Downing Street is now more sustainable than the ‘transient PMs’ that inhabit the building.
According to Joseph Holman, “while prime ministers come and go with increasing frequency, the threshold they cross is a masterclass in durability and resource preservation.”
Fun fact: No 10s iconic black front door is not actually made of wood, nor is it a single asset.
Following an IRA mortar attack in 1991, the original 1735 timber door was replaced by a high security, blast-proof steel composite structure.
Every few years, the door is completely removed, stripped back, repainted and refurbished by specialists while an identical twin takes its place on the hinges.
“With a little bit of care doors can last for years and years,” adds Josoph.
If only the same could be said of our Prime Ministers…
