Hegla develops antibacterial glass finish

Hegla has developed an antibacterial finishing treatment for glass.

The antibacterial finish is applied with its Laserbird laser system, which coats the glass in silver ions, and can be used on all types of flat glass and IGUs.

According to Hegla, the Laserbird system creates a permanent antibacterial function, and has been designed for applications with strict hygiene requirements such as industrial kitchens, hospitals and nursing homes.

Dr Thomas Rainer, head of development at Hegla, said: “In public buildings, retail environments, supermarkets or, for example, safety screens in museums or zoos, antibacterial treatment provides additional protection, enhancing safety against germs and the quality of the visitor experience.”
