Door to growth

Glass Times editor Nathan Bushell discusses the demand for composite doors.

The composite door sector will see significant growth through to 2021, according to a new report from Palmer Market Research.

This is despite toughening market conditions, and the emphasis again seems to be on higher value installations. This is reflected in the increase in demand for aluminium doors.

This is a trend we’ve seen across all market sectors, and it is something we have to really embrace, and not be encouraged to decrease our margins as a way of differentiation when competition increases.

In the wake of the Grenfell Tower disaster, I expect the demand for fire doors to increase. Their popularity was already increasing, even before the fire in west London, and I can only imagine that this will continue.

I also imagine that there will be renewed interest in fire glazing generally. Glass continues to be widely specified in interior fit-outs, so it would make sense to incorporate a level of compartmentalisation without compromising on material use.
