Community pedal power

The Window Company (Contracts) rode to support Osborne and Dacorum Borough Council when they were looking for a supply chain partner to install new windows and doors in a disused building that was being turned into a community cycle hub.

The specialist social housing installer was happy to get involved with the project and donated and fitted five new windows and a door in Rehau Rosewood on white PVCU profile, as well as an aluminium double door set.

The new windows and doors were the finishing touch for the building in Grovehill, Hemel Hempstead, which has been transformed into a bright, accessible ‘one stop shop’ for everything to do with bikes and cycling.

Dacorum Borough Council and Watford Cycle Hub are now working in partnership to run the project, encouraging local people to keep fit by cycling and enjoying the surrounding countryside. They are also running training and skills classes, providing bike repairs, advice and a loan scheme, and have even built a café for people to stop off and enjoy some lunch.

For The Window Company (Contracts), which has long worked with Osborne and Dacorum Council on the installation of replacement windows across much of its social housing stock, it represented the perfect opportunity to give something back to the local community.

Managing director Rob Petre said: “This is a fantastic initiative and we were delighted to be a part of it. Our team went along to the launch event and were really impressed with how the facility is already being used and the positive impact it looks set to have.

“We have a policy of always supporting community projects like this where we can see they will make a real difference to the residents whose homes we work in day to day installing new windows.”
