Pedalo power

Brothers Matt and Brandon Greenwood (the Pedalo Bros) recently completed a 128-mile journey down the river Thames from Lechlade in Gloucestershire to Teddington Lock in London.

The journey was completed in just eight days in a salvaged and restored 10-year-old Pedalo.

Their mission was to raise money to help fund extensive facial reconstructive surgery for a close family member; surgery that was urgently needed to save his life.

Despite the ongoing pain and life-threatening nature of his condition, the waiting time for NHS surgery was at least eight months. Private treatment in the UK would have cost £50,000.

Fortunately, a family friend, a doctor in Belgium, knew of a renowned jaw specialist consultant who agreed to perform the reconstructive surgery within just three months and for less than half the UK cost. The operation was performed in June and was a success, alleviating the constant pain and effectively saving his life.

Matt and Brandon are the sons of Mark Greenwood, sales manager at Origin Global Doors.

“The lads deserve a huge amount of credit for taking on such a tough challenge,” Mark said.

Details of the journey can be seen on the website – www.pedalobros.co.uk – where donations can also be made.
