Honorary fellowship

Valerie Owens, chairperson of the British Board of Agrément’s non-executive board, has been honoured by Cardiff University for Services to Architecture.

Valerie was elected to an honorary fellowship by the Council of Cardiff University during a recent graduation ceremony at the university.

The honour recognises her long and distinguished career, during which she has held numerous non-executive and ministerial positions, involving her in some of the largest and most complex development projects procured by the public sector in recent years.

Valerie said: “I trained at the Welsh School of Architecture and was thrilled to receive this fellowship. I hope that, in some small way, the honour will help reinforce the BBA’s excellent brand and reputation further.”

BBA CEO Claire Curtis-Thomas, said: “I am delighted that the outstanding achievements of our chair have been recognised with such an illustrious award. It is a fitting testament to Valerie’s talent, commitment and drive to promote all that is best about architecture and thoughtful, safe building design. Everyone at the BBA congratulates her on the achievement.”
