Brownhills Glass, part of the United Glass Group, supplied a mixture of toughened, toughened/ laminated and processed glass panels to West Midland Safari Park to create a new enclosure enabling the Park to house its first ever red panda.

Brownhills Glass provided more than 30 glass panels, ranging from 11.5mm to 17.5mm in thickness, to create external glass balustrades and viewing panels which formed an integral part of the purpose-built enclosure, designed to allow its endangered inhabitant to express natural behaviour.

Mei Lin, a one-year-old red panda, took up residence in summer 2021, prior to the Red Panda Retreat opening to the public. Visitors to West Midland Safari Park can now observe this solitary animal in her stimulating and enriching new environment through Brownhill’s glass panels, while learning about the park’s commitment to the conservation of wild red pandas and their habitat.

Brownhills’ commercial manager Simon Philpott said: “It was a real privilege for the team at Brownhills Glass to work again with West Midland Safari Park on another important project. Mei Lin has settled well into her new home, which we’re counting as another satisfied customer.”
