Rapid delivery aims

Sternfenster has purchased a FOM LMT65 aluminium machining and cutting centre.

Representing a total investment of more than £3.6 million, Sternfenster started production in its purpose-built and fully integrated aluminium manufacturing facility at the beginning of this year.
Purchased from and supplied by the Promac Group, the FOM LMT65 forms a key element of the fabricator’s strategic growth plans, doubling its bifold door capacity and significantly cutting manufacturing and lead times.

Nathan Court, Sternfenster’s national trade sales manager, said: “We see a significant opportunity and growth in aluminium, particularly bifolding doors but also windows and entrance doors.

“The LMT65 gives us considerably increased capacity. By reducing the manual touch points in production, it allows us to improve quality and drive major efficiencies throughout our operation, maximising utilisation of bar length and minimising wastage.”

The LMT65 features a multi-spindle preparation unit with 360⁰ variable angle access to all four sides of the profile. This is automatically linked to the sawing unit which features a 650mm diameter blade with electronic tilt control.

A bar feeder and pick up system with adaptive rotating gripper means that the LMT65 has the in-built flexibility to handle different profiles. Equipped with the latest FST 3D software, it’s also user-friendly and requires just a single operative.

“Production are working towards batching up to 30 doors at a time,” Nathan said. “massively increasing our return on materials but also doubling our potential manufacturing capacity.

“This puts us in a position to offer lead times of as little as three-days, while also significantly increasing quality and efficiency. These are advantages that we can pass on directly to our customers in increased flexibility, improved product quality and opportunities for higher margin sales.”
