Four of our top stories this week paint a picture that we are becoming all too familiar with. On the one hand, residential and commercial opportunities are presenting themselves despite the fear over Brexit, while on the other, a lack of skilled workers is hitting the industry hard, driving up wages in the process.
Furthermore, training the next generation remains high on the agenda for industry leaders, even if employment bosses are immorally making a profit from the apprentice levy. Importantly, however, the industry is talking about it, and I have numerous dates in my diary where training in particular will be the main focus for discussion. What we need now is for this to be translated into meaningful action where we have a more productive relationship between industry and education.
On a different note, two men who have completed their training, and who are destined for greater things, are Gareth Jones and Brian McDonald, the new managing director and sales director of Profine UK. I wish them both luck.
